Boss warning for uncommitted stars
Stafford manager Chris Brindley has warned his out-of-contract stars anybody not committed to the cause will not be welcome at Marston Road next season.
The Rangers boss is still waiting on answers from some of last season's playing squad on whether they will stay on for 2009/10.
Five or six have verbally agreed to, while striker Nick Wellecomme and midfielder Bobby Wilson have committed themselves for next season.
But the attitude of some of his free agents has irked Brindley, as he looks to mould his team for another campaign in the Blue Square North.
He feels that some are looking at their offers from the club as a last resort, something to consider if a better offer doesn't come in.
Now the manager has warned that if he senses that from anyone, their 'fall-back' will be withdrawn.
He said: "It has been difficult with players this season, whether they are arrogant or just ignorant, I don't know which phrase to use. At the end of the day, we only want players here that want to be here.
"If their heart is not in it, I would rather that they didn't sign. That is the category I would put them in. Certainly people were made offers and it's a case of 'well, if I can't get anything better then I will sign for Stafford.'
"Well I don't want that - and it's not going to be happening. There is no place for that at our club, to be honest."
Brindley is having to assemble his squad under the radar for next term, with finances sparse at Marston Road.
He has almost a clean slate to work from, with only two currently signed up for next term, and none on the long contracts that plagued the club before financial cuts last December.
Rangers have only brought in goalkeeper Lee Evans from Chasetown so far, while skipper Wayne Daniel - one of the highest earners - has led the trio of players who have left.
His move to Worcester came after former No 1 Tim Sandercombe and left-back Liam Murray left to join Mansfield and Solihull Moors respectively.
But any money the manager spends has to go further than most, leaving him playing the waiting game to get a side together for next season.
He said: "In an ideal world, the whole squad would be signed up by now, but I haven't got the financial clout to do that. For us to have 11 or 12 players signed up in June is impossible, not with the money situation.
"So we are having to move things along slowly."
