Table toppers clash in Staffs league
Beacon captain Craig Jones reckons a victory over Pelsall in Saturday's top-of-the-table clash would be a 'massive' boost for confidence for his title-chasing side.
The league's top two lock horns in the biggest match of the season so far, but Jones admits the result will decide little.
But he still believes a win would be huge for his side's self-belief as they look to mount a serious challenge to the established leading clubs in the division.
Jones said: "It is still early days in the league, so the result isn't going to settle anything.
"But it is still a big game for us, because we are playing a very good Pelsall side and it will be a real test of just how good we are as a team.
"When we played Pelsall last year they were the best team in the league in my opinion. I don't really know how they didn't win the league.
"But they will be one of the strongest sides again this season too. If we could win it would be a massive boost for our confidence, although there would still be a long way to go in the season."
Beacon have named an unchanged side from the one that would have faced Brewood in last Saturday's washed-out match.
Brewood are ready to pounce on any slip-ups at the top against Hammerwich but skipper Dave Wedge insists there is a long way to go.
They lie third in the table following their wash-out against Beacon last weekend and are looking to capitalise when the sides drop points.
The captain said: "At this stage of the season we're keeping an eye on what other people are doing, but there are still 300 points up for grabs."
"We've just got to make sure we're in the mix in the final six games and then push on.
"Hammerwich have been playing some good cricket recently so we're prepared for a tough game."
Opposing skipper Brian Fisher admits his side could be up against it on Saturday.
He said "It's going to be a difficult contest. Probably only half the team have played against them before, so we've got one half going in not knowing what to expect."
On the rise in the league are Bloxwich, who have banished any relegation fears and are targeting a top four spot, according to captain Matt Langston.
They flirted with the drop last season, but a strong start this year sees them comfortably in mid-table ahead of their home clash with Whittington on Saturday.
He said: "We never had a thought about relegation, we've got the players to finish in the top four."
Elsewhere, after last weekend's washout, Aldridge host Old Wulfs Tettenhall, Wednesbury go to Cannock and Rugeley and Springvale entertain Penkridge.
