Brewood set for title test with Beacon

Brewood skipper Dave Wedge believes Saturday's clash with leaders Beacon will be a good barometer for his team's title aspirations.

Wedge's men sit third in the table following last weekend's one-wicket win over Whittington.

Will Marsh stole the show with the ball taking 6-79 from 15 overs, as Whittington reached 253-9.

It was in-form pro Chris Pearce, who has already hit two centuries this season, who steered Brewood home with an unbeaten 98 – Mark Kinson (43) and Steve Bill (58) also made key contributions – to seal another victory.

Wedge could not be happier with his side going into the weekend.

He said: "We are on a good run at the moment,. We've had quite a few close games already and the pleasing thing is we're managing to grind out victories.

"If you don't win these games you can quickly find yourselves out of the title race. Saturday will be a good barometer for how good we are.

"Beacon have made a great start so it will be interesting to see how we match up.

"But I don't see it deciding anything as it's still so early in the season."
