Spokesman Steve Freeth said: "Albion fans have been very loyal to Tony Mowbray, considering what's happened this season, but I just think Celtic need a breath of fresh air and the Mowbray way of playing will appeal to the fans there.

"I feel he'll appear high on Celtic's wishlist. Whether the pull of Celtic is too strong to resist I don't know, but he has to figure highly."

Burnley boss Owen Coyle, a Celtic fan, has been made 5-2 second favourite by bet365.com, but insists he is happy at Turf Moor after leading the Clarets to the Premier League through the play-offs.

He said: "I didn't know there was a vacancy at Celtic. It's flattering that people mention your name, but I am with Burnley.

"I'll concentrate my job on what I'm doing here, and long may that continue."

A better bet could be Motherwell's former Wolves boss Mark McGhee, who bet 365.com have made third favourite for the job, admits he is flattered to be linked with the Celtic post.

But the Motherwell manager refused to reveal whether he would be willing to follow in the footsteps of close friend Gordon Strachan.

McGhee said: "I have no view on my immediate future but it's flattering to be talked of in these terms.

"When I was younger I used to jump at jobs when they came up."
