Wolves speedway ace Fredrik Lindgren continues his pursuit of the club record for successive unbeaten home league rides against Belle Vue tonight.

But an unexpected new threat has emerged to his chances of setting a new mark - Wolves legend Sam Ermolenko.

Lindgren, whose tally currently stands at 28, thought he was chasing fellow Swede Peter Karlsson's figure of 29.

And while subsequent research revised Karlsson's mark to 27, it also revealed that Ermolenko actually holds the record at a staggering 47 during 1993, his world championship season.

Lindgren is hunting his seventh straight home maximum tonight after keeping his proud record against the league's top man last week - Swindon's Leigh Adams.

But Lindgren, who maintained his current splendid form with paid 13 for Polish side Zielona Gora yesterday, is not preoccupied by the record books.

"You just have to try and not think about it, just race," he said. "I'm sure I'm going to get beaten - pretty soon, maybe."

The Parrys International Wolves, four points clear at the top of the Elite League table, are at full strength for tonight's visit of the Aces (7.30pm). Belle Vue utilise rider-replacement for the injured Billy Forsberg.

The Aces will hope to carry a big threat at reserve through Danes Morten Risager - who spent part of last season at Monmore Green - and Patrick Hougaard.

l Wolves No 8 Joe Haines has been released from hospital following his serious crash at Rye House during the world under-21 championship round.

The 17-year-old must wear a halo brace for up to four months after displacing a bone in his neck.

l Wolves mascot Cameron Hoskins scored three points at Newport in the latest round of the British under-15 championship.

Penkridge-based Ashley Morris was withdrawn from the meeting after a heavy crash.

Wolves: 1 Peter Karlsson, 2 Nicolai Klindt, 3 Tai Woffinden, 4 Adam Skornicki, 5 Fredrik Lindgren, 6 Hynek Stichauer, 7 Ty Proctor.

Belle Vue: 1 Krzysztof Kasprzak, 2 rider-replacement for Billy Forsberg, 3 Ulrich Ostergaard, 4 James Wright, 5 Charlie Gjedde, 6 Morten Risager, 7 Patrick Hougaard.
