Rangers map out new direction
Stafford chairman John Downing has moved to answer questions over the club's future direction posed by supporters of the Blue Square North side.
The future of manager Chris Brindley, the playing budget for next season, the contracts situation - Downing has clarified the current stance on all three crucial points.
And Rangers fans have been invited to an open meeting at Marston Road next Tuesday night (7:30pm.), where they ask the chairman himself for answers.
He has declared that the club are firmly behind the current boss and gave the clearest indication yet that the former Wolves defender will remain in charge.
Downing said: "We want Chris to stay on, lets make that clear, and I have heard nothing from him to suggest he won't be doing that. I would stay at this stage that he is staying.
"A meeting is planned with the manager over the next week or so and if we can get it confirmed, it will be a organised start to the summer for the club - the best I have known in 15 years.
"That is what we are looking to do."
The chairman confirmed that Brindley has already received a figure as a starting point for next season's playing budget.
He said: "We have given the manager a start - he has had his provisional budget. He has been given a figure, which is not far off what we finished with at the back end of last season.
"It's a sensible budget which the club can survive on. The door is open and it can be increased as the season wares on, through any revenue we can attract through a cup run or anything like that.
"We are not going to be blinkered because of finance, we will give Chris what he needs to work."
With most of the semi-professional realm set to abolish season-long player contracts for 2009/10, Downing expects less players under iron-clad deals at Marston Road next season.
But he has not ruled it out completely - if a compromise could be reached.
The chairman added: "There will certainly be less contracts next season, that much is true. But if a situation arose where it would be in our interests to put a player under contract, where it is mutually beneficial for both parties to do so, we would be able to do that.
"We haven't ruled anything out."
