The new shirt, which costs £40, has a new sponsor sportingbet.com and features less black and more gold than usual.

Staff at the Dudley Street shop worked until 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday to get the new kit ready, and the club say 10,000 shirts are available for immediate sale.

Tina Hill, store manager said: "We've been working like clockwork to get the place ready for the onslaught, because we know the demand is going to be big.

"People love the new kit, everyone seems to want to get one for the start of the Premier League season."

Pre-order sales for the strip are double the number at this stage last year, with officials saying demand is "in the thousands" already.

Neil Sansom, aged 32, of Codsall, a webmaster at the city council, said: "I think the shirt's great, it's got a lot of gold and a nice trim, it looks very effective. I had to be one of the first to get one."

Steve Franklin, aged 48, of Sedgley, had pre-ordered his kit with Premier League badges on the side and 'Premier Dingle' in words printed on the back.

He said: "It's one of the best kits I've seen. I've got the words done, so I can poke fun at the Albion."
