Wolves weigh up defender bid
Wolves are weighing up a bid for Standard Liege's giant defender Oguchi Onyewu - but they face serious competition to make him their first Premier League signing.

The 40-capped USA international, who turns 27 tomorrow, was watched by Molineux chief Mick McCarthy at the weekend as they beat Club Bruges 2-0.
Wolves have kept tabs on 6ft 4ins Onyewu for some time, but there was a host of watching scouts, including representatives from Birmingham, Fulham and several French and Spanish clubs.
McCarthy has made Premier League experience a cornerstone of his transfer blueprint this summer and crucially, Onyewu had a loan spell at Newcastle in January 2007.
He played 11 games for the Magpies, but then-boss Sam Allardyce decided against making his move permanent.
But he has been a huge hit in Belgium, being a key part of their Jupiler League title win last season as Liege won the crown on the back of a 29-match unbeaten run, which won him selection to the league's best XI for the second time.
Onyewu has played 139 games for Liege, scoring 11 goals and has played against English opposition in Europe this season.
He faced Liverpool in the Champions League losing 1-0, then was on the winning side in a 2-1 victory against Merseyside rivals Everton in the UEFA Cup.
The giant stopper is also said to be the tallest outfield player in US history.
McCarthy has offered 33-year-old Jody Craddock a one-year deal, but has made strengthening the centre of his defence a priority.
He failed to get Liverpool's Bayer Leverkusen-bound Sami Hyypia on a free transfer and is now tracking numerous targets from all over Europe.
