Deals have been presented to the Harriers boss and his assistant Neil Howarth from chairman Barry Norgrove, the duo have now gone away to consider their options.

This comes just 11 days after the Blue Square Premier season ended, with both management and the majority of the playing squad out of contract as of last Saturday.

Now comes an anxious wait to see if Yates will stay and try to build on sixth place in 2008/09, the best the club have managed since returning to non-league in 2005.

Norgrove expects a decision in the coming days.

He said: "We've offered them a contract and we're just waiting now for them to come back to us. They are thinking about it and they have said they will let me know when they've made a decision, so I'm just waiting for it.

"We've put all of our cards on the table and, once they come back to us, they can start sorting out players."

The Aggborough board have had no time to waste after a fairly successful season, one of which is likely to bring potential suitors to the door for some of the star names that have shone in 2008/09.

Harriers possess the most prolific partnership in the league in strikers Matthew Barnes-Homer and Justin Richards, while goalkeeper Adam Bartlett has earned rave reviews for his performances between the sticks.

All are out of contract - a situation that must be acted upon quickly.

Norgrove said: "We all know we have some good players here and it's going to generate a lot of interest around different clubs. There are a lot of big clubs in our league and there is probably going to be a lot of money spent by different clubs next season.

"Our budget for next season is lower at the moment but it all depends on season ticket numbers and all sorts of different things. Hopefully we can try and raise that budget later on once we get nearer to the start of the season - but at the moment it is slightly lower.

"The main thing at this point is to get Mark settled and once that's alright he has a job to do - to look at the players and see what he wants to do."
