Daniel will wait to decide on future

Stafford skipper Wayne Daniel will delay a decision on his future for at least a couple of weeks but is adamant he wants to stay at the club.

The Rangers centre-half has just completed his seventh season at Marston Road and few have been more eventful, but all is well that ends well - the team will tread water where they are in 2009/10.

Whether that will be with or without their long-standing captain is up in the air, with the 32-year-old nearly out-of-contract and one of the highest paid players on the books.

But Daniel stayed with the club despite having his wages slashed in half after financial troubles in December, and is adamant that money will not be the deciding factor in potential talks.

He said: "The manager has spoken to me about it, but I just wanted to the end of the season first, have a couple of weeks off and then sit down to discuss my future. That is not uncommon, I do it every summer. I am in no rush.

"Money is not an issue for me, I just enjoy playing football. Obviously my wages have to be right to an extent, but that won't be the main reasoning for me.

"I would love to stay at the club, seven years I have been here and I feel part of the place."

In the meantime the captain can look forward to his testimonial match on Sunday, with a 'Wayne Daniel All Stars XI' taking on the current Rangers team on Sunday (3pm).

Admission to the match comes with the price of a programme, which is £3 for children and £5 for adults.

Daniel himself will be in Stafford town centre on Saturday afternoon selling programmes for the game.

There will also be a 'Wayne Daniel Sports Night' at the Rangers social club on Saturday May 30.
