Ferrell's shock return for Harriers

Kidderminster midfielder Andy Ferrell has been declared fit to return to the squad at Forest Green after what was originally thought to be a season-ending injury.

The Harriers No 4 went under the knife at the start of last month to repair his knee cartilage, a problem that had been bothering the 25-year-old since a pre-season friendly at Barnstaple.

Ferrell's specialist expressed severe doubts over whether he would be back to play a part in the play-off challenge but now, after just over a month out, the Geordie enforcer has been given the green light for a first-team return.

His recovery gives manager Mark Yates a fully-fit squad to choose from and all hands on deck will probably all be needed.

His side play tonight, Thursday at Ebbsfleet and Saturday at Altrincham, before league leaders Burton are welcomed to Aggborugh for another pivotal clash on Easter Monday.

Now the manager has paid tribute to Ferrell's determination to do his bit for the cause.

He said: "Andy is back in training and back available for selection. So we finally have got a squad where everyone is fit. 'Fez' has been like a breath of fresh air these past couple of days, in my eyes he is ready from now.

"It was always the hope that he would be back sooner than expected. Credit to the work Andy and the physio Pete Dugmore have put in to make that happen."

Yates is wary of the challenge of the hosts tonight, who - despite not being completely out of the relegation woods yet in 16th - have won three of their last four games.

He added: "Forest Green have been on a really good run lately, so it will be tough. But, like I have always said, we are not concerned with other teams, we are 100 per cent focussed on our next test.

"But anything less than the commitment and attitude we have been showing, then we will be in trouble."
