Halesowen bid to save the game

Crisis club Halesowen are battling to get their home Southern League Premier clash with Corby on as they try and find enough money to pay off their debts.

The Yeltz have been banned from playing by the Football Association, after they failed to meet a deadline set to pay three ex-players monies owed and settle transfer and loan fees with two clubs.

The club have now paid the players to the satisfaction of the FA and are trying to agree deals with the two unnamed clubs – but are still looking for the funds.

Chief executive Guy Simpson insists they will be working until the last minute to save tomorrow's game and avoid possible further sanctions.

He said: "We've sorted it out with the players and now we have to reach an agreement with the two clubs, but at the moment there are not the funds to do it.

"The League, Corby and I will be working until 5pm. They are happy for us to make a final decision in the morning.

"We've got an agreement which is not subject to this and that, if we do it the suspension will be lifted.

"We've still got a little bit further to go but we are confident we can pull it off."

Simpson called for extra help from fans or businesses to find the final money and admitted his frustration at the situation.

He said: "Where Merthyr Tydfil get fans running round to give them £50,000 we are still looking for £3-4,000 at this stage and no one has come forward to help find the money.

"It's an opportunity for someone to come forward and do some good."

But Simpson believes the Yeltz can survive the latest storm in a turbulent season.

Manager and owner Morell Maison is facing a ban until 2010, pending the result of an appeal, after being found guilty of violent conduct and failure to provide information.
