Ross Draper controlled the middle of the park and, after winning a tackle on the half way line, he played a pass for Elliott Durrell who then played the ball into space for Ross Dyer to hit a shot from the right across the face of the goal.

Goalkeeper Stuart Brock came off his line to deny Tom Raw after a ball was played into the box, then Karl Charlton tried his luck with a long range chipped shot after he was gifted the ball by sloppy play in the middle.

Brock was off his line but the ball safely sailed over the crossbar.

Hednesford took the lead in the 39th minute, when Tom Marshall curled a long pass from inside his own half for Dyer to chase.

Having beaten the offside trap, he beat a defender for pace and slipped the ball past Liversedge to take his tally for the season to 28 goals.

Whitby made an early second half substitution and substitute Sean Ross should have levelled in the 56th minute, when he hit a cross from the left straight at Brock from only six yards.

Durrell was brought down by Jimmy Beadle who was cautioned for the challenge. A free-kick routine by Durrell and Marshall enabled Marshall to hit a firm low shot under the wall and, after taking a deflection, it ended up in the back of the net.

Draper was booked for a tackle in the 70th minute, which took his tally to 15 yellows for the season.

As a result he will miss the last three games of the season, but should be available for the play-offs in the event the Pitmen qualify.

Barnett, who had failed to score since mid-January, got the goal his efforts deserved in added-on time, when he controlled a pass and lifted the ball over Liversedge.
