Brindley looks for bounce back

Stafford manager Chris Brindley wants his players to keep their heads up for the trip to Alfreton tonight (7:45pm).

Rangers are still smarting from letting a 2-0 lead end in a 3-2 defeat after going to Southport as the underdogs on Saturday and there is little time to mope, now a trip to Blue Square North play-off contenders looms large.

Nicky Law's side come into the match after back-to-back wins without a goal conceded and Stafford should know, they were the first to fall in a 2-0 defeat at Marston Road last Tuesday.

The corresponding fixture arrives with Rangers a point more worse off in their buffer from the relegation places, it stands at five going into play.

But Brindley has been impressed with the character shown by his side despite going eight games without a win - a sequence of results that has turned their season into a real relegation battle.

He said: "We have just got to keep going - it's a very procarious position we are in. It's no use moaning and complaining about what is past, we have to pick up points and the sooner, the better.

"The fixture list is there for everyone to see - we have got some very tough games between now and the end of the season. Nobody here is giving up, credit to the players as their heads haven't dropped.

"We have just got to get on with it - we will get what we deserve."

A possible glimmer of hope is that all of the relegation rivals - with the exception of Hyde, the last team to be beaten by Rangers - are also in action and they can't all win, especially with Blyth Spartans and Redditch playing each other.

Farsley Celtic - breathing down the necks of the Marston Road men a point and place behind in 17th - also have an unenviable task, a trip to fourth placed AFC Telford.

Brindley has told his side to concentrate on that they are doing, but if a favour comes along then so be it.

He said: "All we can do is take it game to game now. Obviously we are going to be aware of what other teams are doing around us, but our fate is in our hands - if we start getting results.

"Of course, if we can get favours from elsewhere, you take anything you can - but you can't rely on that. It has got to be down to us."
