Forest warning for league leaders

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has warned his side they face the prospect of tackling an "inspired" Nottingham Forest side eager to derail their promotion push.

Relegation-threatened Forest are licking their wounds after a 5-0 mauling by Burnley last Saturday and saw their plight heighten on Tuesday, after Barnsley's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace dropped Forest back into the bottom three.

But having assessed the reports and watched footage of their last three games, the Wolves boss doesn't think it will be easy at the City Ground on Saturday.

He said: "Go and look at their team sheet – Wes Morgan, Kelvin Wilson, Chris Gunter, James Perch, Lewis McGugan, Chris Cohen, Rob Earnshaw, Gary McSheffrey on loan from Blues and Nathan Tyson – have I named any bad players yet?

"There were no bad players in the Charlton side we faced last Saturday either. The fact that Forest have been beaten could be one of two things.

"I suppose they'll all be feeling a bit sensitive about being beaten 5-0 and had Billy (Davies) lashing them, and I'd imagine they'd want to restore a bit of faith in themselves.

"There are two ways they can go – I'm not sure they can get any worse than 5-0, but it doesn't always work that you get beaten by five you come back feeling confident

"But I haven't yet played against a team that doesn't get inspired from playing against us. We're top of the league and they all want to stop us. They need the points themselves anyway."

McCarthy reckons Forest will stay up, backing manager Billy Davies to get it right in the end.

He said: "Billy is a good manager at this level – he's been in the play-offs three times."
