Weston relishing the Saddlers gauntlet

Walsall defender Rhys Weston is relishing running the Banks's Stadium gauntlet against Brighton after their weekend horror show.

The defender, whose place is under threat following the shambolic 5-0 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday, believes the Saddlers are ready to hit back.

But he admits the stunned fans will be expecting a response and they need to produce.

He said: "We will be under scrutiny to see how we bounce back. It's a test of character and we're relishing it, No-one likes being beaten 5-0 and everyone's pride has been dented.

"It was an embarrassing result but we can't afford to dwell on it, that's the beauty of football, there is always another game.

"We need to perform for the fans and give a good account of ourselves."

The 28-year-old admits a performance is secondary to a result against the Seagulls, who thumped Yeovil 5-0 at the weekend.

He said: "We want to play well but it's a results business and, if we can come away with a 1-0 win, I would rather do that than conceding late on but playing well.

"I would settle for a scrappy 1-0 win. I know we would not have played well but at the end of it we would have won the game.

"The most important thing is to win and finish as high up the league as we possibly can."
