Brindley turned down by striker
Stafford have been turned down by Leek striker Ben Mills ahead of a "must win" Marston Road clash with Workington.
Rangers boss Chris Brindley was free to speak to the 19-year-old after Saturday's goalless draw with Droylsden, only for the player to surprisingly rebuff a move to a higher level.
The 10-goal forward has opted to stay with the UniBond League Division One South outfit until the end of the season, although Brindley has not ruled out reviving his interest in the summer.
He said: "Ben has turned us down, we have tried to get to him but we were unsuccessful. Why? You would have to ask the lad that. Maybe he didn't want to go this late in the season. Maybe we will look at bringing him in again in the summer.
"We are not scoring enough goals, that is clear to see. You take away David McNiven's goals and it's plain to see, we don't look like putting the ball in the back of the net.
"The rest of the team have got to start chipping in with their share of the goals, that is why I am looking to bring players in."
Rangers go into tonight's match one point and one place behind their visitors in 15th, although both sides are still some eight points away from the relegation places, after picking up a point at the weekend.
Workington face a long trip before taking to the field, a 200-mile plus journey to get to Marston Road, 90 plus minutes of football - and a hell of a long journey back if the result is a defeat.
Brindley has told his side a win is the target, after draws in each of the last two games ended a run of three back-to-back away defeats.
With plenty of tests to come, the manager knows three points could make all the difference.
He said: "It's a must win game, we have got some tough games coming up and we need three points to keep us away from the relegation zone. I know thats an old chestnut, but it's a game we are looking to win and we need to have that focus.
"They have got a long journey to get to us, like we had earlier in the season, so we have to use that to our advantage."
Liam Murray faces a late fitness test for Rangers with a dead leg.
