Rushall 1 Quorn 0
Rushall Olympic bounced back from a disappointing defeat a week earlier to open up a five-point advantage over their visitors.
The visitors' Tony Marriott was first to threaten on 16 minutes, as the defender sent a stabbed drive wide of the right post from 10 yards during the aftermath of a corner.
The Pics had to wait until the half hour mark for their first worthwhile attempt on target, as Craig Marshall drove straight into the arms of Craig Jones from 15 yards.
An error by Marriott on 37 minutes almost cost the visitors dear but, after gaining possession and racing clear of the last man, Carl Palmer could only send the ball over the crossbar when well placed.
On the stroke of half-time, the Quorn custodian had to be at his best to hold on to Dave Haywood's 25-yard drive as Rushall continued to probe for an opening.
The defining moment of the contest arrived two minutes before the hour mark when a free-kick from the left by Haywood was swung into the near post, where Palmer headed powerfully home from eight yards to give the Pics a crucial advantage.
As Olympic sought to extend their lead, Jarred Stevens rippled the Leicestershire outfit's side netting on 69 minutes, before substitute Nathan Lamey rolled the ball wide of the right hand post with seven minutes remaining.
Quorn's discouraging afternoon was compounded in the fourth minute of injury time after their manager Gavin O'Toole was ordered from the technical area by referee Mr Simpson, whose display failed to make any friends in either camp.
