Ferrell injury blow for Harriers

Kidderminster have been dealt an injury blow with the news that midfielder Andy Ferrell is out for a month after an operation on his knee.

The 25-year-old will go under the knife today, after sitting out the 2-0 win against Eastbourne on Saturday as an unused sub.

Ferrell has been suffering with his cartilage since the summer but has had to play through the pain barrier in recent weeks, with central midfield options sparse.

That situation has now taken a turn for the better, with England C international Russell Penn playing an hour on Saturday after a month out, while manager Mark Yates has also signed Michael Carr and Chris McPhee - who made his debut against Eastbourne - for the middle of the park.

Ferrell can now finally get the problem sorted once and for all, with Yates hailing how the player put the team even before his own health.

The Harriers boss said: "Fez has gone in for surgery today - he's been in a lot of pain with his knee for the last couple of months and it's just been getting worse.

"He picked up the injury in Devon, down at Barnstaple when we played there in pre-season. He's battled on and on but it's just got worse and it's in his best interest that we get it done.

"He's seen a specialist and we're getting him operated on. We want him back with us and back in the squad as quickly as possible, but we're looking at around four weeks hopefully."
