Brindley looks at another six-pointer
Stafford manager Chris Brindley has told his side tomorrow's trip to Burscough in the Blue Square North is "another six pointer."
Rangers' take on Andy Mutch's side at Victoria Park (3pm) with no less than 11 points separating the two, the visitors in the lower reaches of mid-table, the home side fighting for their lives in the last relegation place.
But Burscough have tasted success against Brindley this year - on their own turf no less - with a 2-0 win on January 17.
The Marston Road boss called that display "as bad as it gets" at the time, although his side have won two out of three home games since.
But he does concede that Rangers' owe 'Mutchy' one, although the only real concern is the points on offer.
Brindley said: "It is another six-pointer, they all are between now and the end of the season. If we lose, we get further sucked into it, if we win, we nudge further away from trouble with another round of games over and done with.
"We are managing to maintain the gap at the minute, winning one here and losing one here, but we need results to carry on doing that. This is a real big game, one look at the league should tell you that and we cannot afford to get beat there.
"We must go there to win."
Rangers failed to build on last Saturday's 2-0 win against Hyde, after they were drubbed 4-0 at Hinckley on Monday night.
But none of their relegation rivals managed to win their midweek games and, if results go their way, they could go 14 points clear of the bottom three with a win.
Even then Brindley will not concede they are safe, that will not happen until it is mathematically confirmed.
Then the manager can look to the future.
He added: "It's just about getting to the end of the season above the relegation places, I have said that from day one. We have just got to preserve our status and if we finish fourth or fifth from bottom at the end of the season, so be it.
"We can then look to the summer and rebuild, but that is for another day."
