In the third minute Richard Batchelor was brought down on the edge of the area but Chris Kiely saved Ben Steane's free-kick. Rovers' first attack saw Ryan Price collect a low cross from Cameron Jones.

A shot from Richard Teesdale on five minutes was blocked by Adam Daly. Kiely then dived low to save a further free-kick from Mark Branch.

Two further Branch free-kicks came to nought as the game became more physical, with three Bromsgrove players cautioned.

A low effort by Steane two minutes into the second half was cleared by Jemiah Richards, while a mistake by Teesdale allowed Richard Ball to fire in a cross but Price was on hand.

Graham Deakin's free kick for Rovers was cleared by Vaughan Thoma,s before Branch crossed low from the left to Danny Smith on 52 minutes but he was prevented from shooting at the last moment.

The resultant corner was headed goalwards by Thomas and bounced back to Smith who fired the ball into the far corner of the net to put the Scholars ahead.

Taking the lead seemed to spur the visitors into pushing harder and Kiely beat Birch to a long ball from Smith on 55 minutes, before eight minutes later a Steane corner was headed on by Teesdale allowing Smith to head home his second.

Bromsgrove fought back but could not create a clear chance, Thomas putting substitute Joseph Howes' cross out for a corner on 75 minutes before Batchelor fired a long-range effort wide.

Three minutes later a mix-up saw Joe Williams and Howes tangle and clatter into Price, with Howes gathering the ball and rounding the keeper before firing into the net.
