Rangers boss eyes midfield pairing

Stafford manager Chris Brindley insists that he hasn't brought Tom Thorley back to replace Chris Flynn - he wants them as his midfield pairing.

The Rangers boss got his number one target at the weekend with Thorley returning from Stoke until the end of the season, after his impact over three months at Marston Road earlier in the season.

With finances still sparse, it was thought that Flynn may have to be sacrificed, with the midfield enforcer on a pay-as-you-play deal since returning to the club after his release from Northwich a fortnight ago.

But the 21-year-old has impressed Brindley in his three games back, so the manager is balancing the books to keep Flynn in his side.

He said: "I hope that Chris will stop with us until the end of the season. I know Chasetown and another club are interested, but we are hopeful.

"It is up to the lad to decide at the end of the day, which he will do this week. At the moment he is our player and we hope he will stay at this higher level with us.

"To be honest, at the moment he is owed two month's wages by his last club Northwich, so he has got to do the best for his family and for himself. We will see what we can offer him and I hope that will be acceptable.

"I didn't bring Tom Thorley in to replace Chris, I want them to play them together."
