The tie survived a late pitch inspection after heavy rain left areas of the playing surface waterlogged.

The Pitmen were forced into a late change, with new signing Jamie Maxston getting lost en-route from London and being replaced in the starting line up by Elliott Durrell.

The wind and rain made it difficult for both teams to settle and the conditions did not help visiting keeper Stuart Brock in the sixth minute, when Tom Moss' header went straight through his hands to give the Division One South side the lead.

Moss had a good chance to increase Kidsgrove's lead in the 26th minute, when he fired straight at Brock.

Hednesford levelled on 29 minutes through Dominic Musafiri. He reacted quickest to net after keeper Adam Wilkes had failed to hold a shot from Mark Briggs.

There was more joy for the visitors three minutes later when they nosed in front. Anthony Maguire's cross from the right was only half cleared and Luke Edwards drilled home a low shot from the edge of the box.

Kidsgrove had a chance to equalise just before half time, when Danny Skelton glanced a header onto the crossbar and Craig Dove headed wide from close range.

The Pitmen sealed the win in the 82nd minute, when a quick break down the right saw Durrell pull the ball back for Edwards to slide in and touch the ball home.

Edwards was denied a hat-trick when he had a late effort ruled out for offiside.

Hednesford will face Skelmersdale United in the next round at Keys Park next Tuesday.
