Boss warning for Harriers trialists
Kidderminster manager Mark Yates has warned trial duo Andy Johnson and Martin Butler they face a battle to earn a permanent deal at Aggborough.
Former Albion midfielder Johnson and released Grimsby striker Butler - who started his career at Walsall - both played for Harriers in a practice match at Birmingham's Wast Hills training ground this week.
Johnson, a 15-cap former Wales international, is without a club since his release from Barnsley this month, with fellow 34-year-old Butler also a free agent and back in his home town of Dudley.
Both are merely training with Yates' side, although he has not completely ruled out a deal.
He said: "Andy and Martin have local links, so have been training with us while they don't have a club. There is not much else to read into it at the moment, we are having a look at them.
"It is not impossible that they could be offered a deal, but we are reasonably well-stocked in central midfield and attack, so they may struggle to get ahead of what we already have.
"We will continue to look at them and see where we go."
Yates is more focussed on his earmarked transfer targets, hoping to bring good news to Harriers fans soon.
He said: "There are still one or two things bubbling away, and I hope to be able to confirm something early next week. It is a mad month, but now we are getting towards the end, hopefully we can tie up what we want to.
"I am not going to name specific areas I want to strengthen, because that is not fair on the players we have here. Lets just say I am always interested in bringing players in who can improve the squad.
"We are always looking to bring good players in."
