Keates backing for caretaker
Walsall old-boy Dean Keates has backed caretaker manager John Schofield to be the next permanent Saddlers boss.
Keates, who locked horns with Schofield's Walsall for Peterborough, believes his former Lincoln manager would be the ideal man to take over from the sacked Jimmy Mullen.
The Posh midfielder said: "I worked with John Schofield at Lincoln and he was excellent. He is really enthusiastic, he knows his football and is a great coach.
"I thought he was a good manager to work under when I was at Lincoln. I know that the fans at Walsall are looking for someone to excite them and maybe John Schofield isn't a name who would do that.
"But if I was a player at Walsall now I would be happy to have John as my manager. I would want to play for him, which is an important thing."
