Albion 3 Middlesbrough 0 - verdict

Albion gave their hopes of a second 'Great Escape' a major shot in the arm as they took apart relegation rivals Middlesbrough at the Hawthorns.

New loan signing Marc-Antoine Fortune scored a lucky debut goal, as the Baggies moved off the bottom of the table with a third straight league win at home.

Fortune's goal was sandwiched between strikes by Chris Brunt and Robert Koren, as Tony Mowbray's men completed their first ever Premier League 'double,' following their 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium in September.

They have now beaten fellow strugglers Manchester City, Tottenham and Boro in successive home matches to take themselves past the 20-point mark.

Brunt got the benefit of some controversial officiating to give his side a fourth minute lead.

The winger was offside when Carl Hoefkens crossed but the flag stayed down - and he seized on Tony McMahon's weak header to drill home.

Albion preserved their lead until half-time despite some pressure and it was 2-0 nine minutes after the break, when Fortune marked his Premier League debut with a goal.

Middlesbrough's hopes of a fightback were killed off when midfielder Didier Digard was shown a straight red card, for a stamping challenge on Borja Valero.

Albion later broke to add a third when Koren netted.
