Freddie has ace up his sleeve

Returning speedway ace Freddie Lindgren has a secret weapon in his camp for 2009.

Lindgren, who concluded a deal with the Parrys International Wolves at the weekend, is changing his mechanic.

The 23-year-old has snapped up ace spanner wielder Jacek Trojanowski – known to all at Monmore Green as 'Jacko'.

Now team manager Peter Adams is expecting that mechanical expertise to help the Swede to a big breakthrough season. He is also encouraged by the speed with which Lindgren agreed to his new Wolves deal.

He said: "We're very glad that it was not a long and protracted negotiation. As I understand it, it was all over in one phone call which is a good indicator that Freddie himself is eager to come back.

"I suppose it's fair to say that he didn't quite make the strides last year that we were anticipating. We think the root cause of that was probably mechanical, and he did an awful lot of meetings as well.

"The last six weeks of the season he was very tired. But he's undergone a serious mechanical change in the winter.

"He'll be assisted in the coming season by 'Jacko', Peter Karlsson's mechanic for three seasons and Niels-Kristian Iversen's mechanic last year.

"I think Jacko is acknowledged within the speedway world as amongst the best, if not THE best, mechanic there is. We're quite sure that his involvement with Freddie will generate another two points a meeting at least.

"So hopefully this will be the year when he finally translates that undoubted ability into points on the track."

Adams was delighted by Lindgren's return for a fifth successive full campaign, leaving just one place to fill in the side.

The manager said: "It's great news, because it means the team is near to being finished off now as we envisaged it last October. We knew then what we wanted this year's team to look like – and when we just find the last piece of the jigsaw that's exactly what it will do."
