Halesowen 2 Bashley 0

Halesowen took full advantage of being the only Southern League fixture to beat the freeze to move into second place in the table.

The Yeltz had to wait for a glorious last minute strike from Jay Denny to wrap up the points, after Mark Danks had given them an early lead.

But the home side faced an anxious last 20 minutes, after being reduced to ten men by Aaron Cornwall's sending off.

Manager Morell Maison praised groundsman Ian Hipkiss for getting the pitch in tip top condition and beating the frost.

Halesowen started well, with Ruben Gouveia's stooping header striking the cross bar in the second minute.

They took the lead after 18 minutes, when Danks met Nuno Barreto's cross with a looping header into the net.

Bashley were given late hope when Cornwall was dismissed for lashing out at their captain Paul Gazzard in the 71st minute.

But there was little change in play, as Barreto chipped against the Bashley bar. Halesowen deservedly notched their second goal, when Denny curled a fine 20-yard effort over Elm to nestle into the top corner in the 89th minute.
