Yates finalising transfer plans

Kidderminster manager Mark Yates will finalise his movements in the transfer market this week as the "month of madness" kicks into gear.

The Harriers boss will sit down with trusted assistant Neil Howarth and identify what the squad will need to sustain their promotion challenge, with the Aggborough club sitting fourth in the Blue Square Premier.

He has already set the wheels in motion on the recruitment front.

He said: "We have talking all through December about what we would like to do. Now is the time when things can happen. I have spoken to one or two people about one or two things. What's served us well we'll stick to, but you never know with this one month of madness.

"Over the next couple of days Neil and I will be evaluating the squad, seeing where our strengths and weaknesses are and where we might need something.

"Then we'll sit down with the Chairman and see if we can bring something to the football club that might make us better - we're always looking."

Such has been the form of his side that Yates could be forced to repel offers for his star players, with England C midfielder Russell Penn and highly-rated goalkeeper Adam Bartlett among those likely to attract interest.

The manager admits every player has his price, but it will be a high one.

He said: "Unless we get ridiculous offers, then I don't see anyone leaving the football club that we don't want to leave. We want to achieve something this season and we're in a good position to do that."

The Harriers boss also decisions to make on the make up of his current squad. He expects to extend the loan deal of Albion left-back Lee Baker this week, who has been a virtual ever present in the side since arriving in August.

He has already told Michael McGrath and Paul Bignot they have no future at the club, while Chris Beardsley has returned to Kettering at the end of his loan spell.

A decision will also need to be made on the future of striker Stefan Moore, whose month-to-month deal will soon be up.

Yates added: "There are one or two who will be looking to move on, but it is not always as easy as that. Michael and Paul have been out on loan and, as we speak, I don't see them having a future at the football club.

"I've spoken to West Brom and spoken to Lee and the ball is in his court now with regards to what he wants to do. I know he wants to come back, we're just working out the best way of doing it."
