Klindt poised for 2009 Wolves ride

Dashing Dane Nicolai Klindt is poised to sign up again with Wolves for the 2009 speedway season.

Klindt meets Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten for what are expected to be conclusive talks before putting his name on the dotted line.

The rider, who turned 20 last month, will become the fifth piece in the puzzle for the Parrys International Wolves.

If major target Freddie Lindgren also puts pen to paper, there will be just one slot remaining in the Monmore line-up.

Klindt said: "We've been speaking back and forth and I have a meeting with Chris. So I hope we will sort everything out there. It's just bits and pieces to be put in place and then everything will be OK."

The fast-starting Klindt's raw pace caught the eye in an otherwise poor 2008 Wolves campaign, and with that promising Elite League debut season under his belt he is expected to kick on this year.

He said: "I feel I'm ready for next season to do a bit more. We've been testing a lot, trying stuff. I think next year I'm going to have a good set-up which will work well.

"If I get my starts right and I'll work on that before the start of the season to make them perfect. I know I'll be scoring double figures almost every time. I've been beating Chris Harris and people like that round Monmore. I know I can do that again."

Klindt has set himself lofty ambitions for the season, including a crack at the world under-21 championship in his final season of eligibility. But he urgently needs sponsorship backing in this country.

He said: "I don't have any sponsors in Britain right now. But I'm looking, and speaking with some companies. I hope I can find some firms to help me reach my goals.

"I know it's hard, with the financial crisis, and I'm a foreign rider. But I got the Most Entertaining Rider of the Year award at Wolves last year, so I feel the fans like watching me.

"I would try to show it would be a good opportunity if someone wants to help me."
