Relieved Stafford Rangers boss Chris Brindley has called on his players to ensure their first win in seven games is not a one-off.

Rangers won for the first time after the cash crisis which has decimated the club and the squad following the departures of key players and former manager Steve Bull.

Former Telford man Dean Craven returned to haunt his old club with the goal in the 1-0 win on New Year's Day to hand Rangers a morale-boosting victory in the Blue Square North.

They host Workington tomorrow and Brindley has asked his side for the same effort and commitment.

He said: "If we go on a run of six, seven or eight defeats it becomes a tough situation so we needed to get that first win.

"We will fight for every point and if we can go to Telford and get a result we can go anywhere. We need to make sure it isn't a one-off but whether we can maintain that level of performance only time will tell."

But, Brindley admitted the win had boosted the atmosphere around Marston Road from everyone connected with Rangers.

He said: "It is hard to produce that sort of effort and they have set the standard. They wanted the game more and deserved to win it.

"It was massive for everyone connected with the club, the directors, players and fans and it gives everyone a boost."

Brindley knows if they lose at home to Workington tomorrow then their hard work will be undone.

They sit 11th in the Blue Square North and are desperate for points after the turmoil which has engulfed the club over the last month.

Workington sit 18th and Brindley hopes his players have enough left in the tank to compete with the strugglers and continue to put distance between themselves and the bottom.

"It has taken a lot out of them and it is a big test tomorrow," said Brindley. "They are all big games because we are in a bit of a dogfight but if we can repeat that effort and commitment we can hopefully get a positive result."
