Rangers have squad of 16

Stafford Rangers fans can stop worrying - new manager Chris Brindley has a squad of 16 players for the trip to Farsley tomorrow (3pm).

After the fortnight from hell, which resulted in the departure of previous boss Steve Bull and the majority of the first-team playing staff, the focus can now turn back to football.

The good news is that two players will sign on a month's loan today to boost depleted Rangers, in the form of midfielders Dean Craven from Bromsgrove and Christian Miller from League Two Macclesfield.

Former Stafford full-back Ishmael Reid, who was released in September, has also returned to the club on non-contract forms.

Brindley said: "We have made more progress this week than I expected. This is the strongest side we could have put together in these circumstances."

The three new boys will be added to Stuart Pierpoint, Andre Francis, Nick Amos, skipper Wayne Daniel, Jonathan Loukes and David McNiven from the still-under-contract players.

The non-contract players in Tim Sandercombe, Dorryl Proffitt and Mark Magee are also expected to be included, with reserve team prospects Danny Allen and Charlie Jones also in the squad, making up 14 players all together.

Brindley could opt to use two more reserve-teamers to make 16, or could sign up any two of the three players training with Rangers in Joe Owen, Sam Hollingsworth and Ben Bradley on forms in time for the trip.

Anyway you judge it, Rangers have a squad - more than was expected at one point.

Farsley will of course be favourites, but Brindley's patched up squad are not going there just to fulfil a fixture.

He said: "Most people have written the first three games off, the trip to Farsley and then the two games with AFC Telford. I can tell you we haven't.

"We need every point we can get, so anything we can get out of these games is well-earned. It is going to be very tough, we know that, but we are not going to roll over.

"We are a lot happier with where we are at this point."

As the business end of the season gets back underway, the new Stafford boss now just wants to get his head down.

He said: "I have to channel my efforts into managing this football club, not the politics that have surrounded it. It has been a desperate situation but we are coming through it.

"Now it is all about the football."
