Wolves line up double rider signing

Wolves could give speedway fans a festive fillip by signing two more riders before Christmas.

They already have iconic figure Peter Karlsson, teenage wonderkid Tai Woffinden and Polish champion Adam Skornicki signed and sealed for 2009.

Now the focus switches to the key figure of 2008 skipper Freddie Lindgren and promising 19-year-old Nicolai Klindt – with team manager Peter Adams remaining hopeful.

He said: "If we can just get Freddie on board now, which we're working on, that would put our top five in position. We'd like to achieve that by Christmas."

Chris Kerr and Ty Proctor are declared targets to share a double-up role at reserve, with Adams adding "Kerr will definitely feature."

This would leave one slot open but clearly Lindgren, a confirmed starter in next season's world championship Grand Prix series and improving year on year, is the pivotal man.

Several GP riders are opting out of British racing this year. Wolves fans will hope the 23-year-old Swede isn't one of them.

Adams said: "It all depends on Freddie coming to the party. If he does, then we know what we're going to do. If he doesn't, then we also know what we're going to do!"

On paper there appears a dearth of available riders around the 4.4 mark at which Wolves would be looking. Adams disagrees.

He said: "There's a lot of them about. It's when you go a bit higher up that it starts to dry up. The elusive five-and-a-half pointer is like a needle in a haystack.

"But in that bracket of four to five, there are quite a few of those not fixed up. We know that because they're ringing us up, interested in a place.

"We know who our favoured ones are, but that depends on Freddie."
