Rangers players in crisis deadline
Stafford's remaining players have until 8pm tonight to decide their futures – but chairman John Downing has confirmed Rangers will have a team for Saturday regardless.
The short-term future of the cash-strapped club, who have already been forced to axe boss Steve Bull and a host of players, will be resolved at a crisis meeting at training this evening,
And Downing insists Rangers will have a team in place for Saturday's game with Farsley Celtic – even if they have to revert to plan B.
"We are waiting from an answer from the players who are playing for us at the moment," said Downing.
"We have put things into place so that the club is covered. Either way, there will be a football team playing on Saturday and Boxing Day.
"It's a delicate situation at the moment because the players have got to make their own minds up, they are training tonight and by 8pm tonight we will take a deep breath and find out if we are winning the battle.
"We have to respect the wishes of all of the players, it's a lot of individuals, I can only guide the club as best I can.
"I cannot say to you that Dave McNiven, for example, will be here. As far as I am aware he will be playing on Saturday but I can only confirm that when he has given me his final answer.
"I want to keep the fans up to date with the situation but I can't make I promises. We have always come out of difficult situations on top in the past and it is our intention to do so again.
"A number of players have agreed to stay with us, some of the key ones are about to give us an answer, they haven't left the club yet so that's a good sign."
