Rangers play on despite cash crisis
Stafford Rangers' players will face Vauxhall Motors tomorrow despite the threat of pay cuts amid a cash crisis at Marston Road.
Stafford Rangers' players will face Vauxhall Motors tomorrow despite the threat of pay cuts amid a cash crisis at Marston Road.
But Steve Bull's shocked squad will seek urgent meetings next week with club officials to discuss the financial problems that have hit the Blue Square North side.
Bull spoke to his players after training last night to discuss the crisis that is threatening to force the club into administration.
And the entire first team squad made themselves available for the eighth-placed team for the home clash with Vauxhall. Assistant boss Chris Brindley said today: "We had a meeting and the players were alright.
"They will all be playing tomorrow if selected although there are a lot of things that still need sorting out. Every player has made himself available and we will be playing with a full-strength team.
"But in the next two weeks there are a lot of issues that need to be sorted out, both for the players' sake and the club's."
Rangers are without a game for a fortnight after tomorrow's match and Brindley reckons the players' situation will become clearer before they return to action at Farsley Celtic on December 20.
He said: "We don't have a game next Saturday and, with the way the last couple of days have gone, I think the two week break might be coming at the right time.
"The fortnight off will give us chance to sit down as a club and work out what is happening and what the future is.
"The mood last night was okay. All the players agreed to focus on Saturday's game and then discuss things more over the next two weeks." A reduction in income has left the club needing to make drastic spending cuts .
It is understood that both contracted and non-contract players are facing major cuts in earnings.
A club statement yesterday said: "Due to the current serious financial situation, we are unable to continue the present levels of expenditure. We have to take our responsibilities seriously no matter how difficult or unpopular certain decisions are.
"The club wishes to retain all players registered but any who wish to seek employment at other clubs can do so."
