Yates' promise to boy wonder
Kidderminster manager Mark Yates has told teenage prodigy Nathan Hayward he will not stand in his way if big clubs come calling for the player.
Kidderminster manager Mark Yates has told teenage prodigy Nathan Hayward he will not stand in his way if big clubs come calling for the player.
The newly-turned 17-year-old has turned down the chance of a week at Championship leaders Wolves, where he spent time recently and played in an U16 game, to focus on breaking into the Harriers first team.
The teenager has been in the first-team squad on a number of occasions this term and hopes to make his first-team bow in the not too distant future - a dream which be a million miles away at Molineux.
Harriers director of youth Nick Griffiths revealed Mick McCarthy's side "weren't the only club showing an interest" and Yates promises he would not stand in the player's way if a big club came in.
Indeed, it was with Yates' blessing that he went to Wolves in the first place.
He said: "I told Nathan that he would be a fool not to go to Wolves and listen to what they had to say. As a progressive club, it would be wrong of us to stand in a player's way in such a situation.
"It was up to him and his decision not to take it any further with Wolves. If another big club came in, it again would be up to the player and what he thought was right for him."
