Bully takes on the Lancashire side for the first time as boss but the two camps were locked in contact at one point, mainly for the purposes of a one-month loan deal for Rangers striker David McNiven.

The Stafford boss had agreed with his opposite number, former Albion midfielder Micky Mellon, that the player would go to the Highbury Stadium - as soon as he had played two games in a short space of time where the team needing a frontman.

Three goals in two games later, Bully had a change of heart and now McNiven will lead the line against a team he could have been playing for.

The Rangers manager expects the club's top scorer to tackle the task in the right way.

He said: "I didn't know Micky personally when we were players but I have had a lot of contact with him, for arranging for David to go on loan to Fleetwood. As it turns out, the player stopped that from happening with his performances for us.

"David still only lives a short distance away from Fleetwood and knows people at the club, but all that goes out of the window when they come to play us tomorrow.

"I am looking for him to go out and show them that they maybe should have pushed a bit harder to get him in, although I wouldn't have let him play against us anyway."

Bully will not be underestimating the reigning Unibond League Premier Division champions, who boast a lot of experience in their ranks.

Former Albion defender Georges Santos, former Sheffield Wednesday full-back John Hills and former Everton man Jamie Milligan all have substantially appeared in the Football League.

Fleetwood can also call on upon former Rangers player Farrell Kilbane, while striker Andy Bell - son of former Wolves FA Cup hero Norman - is the club's top scorer.

Bull said: "They will be tricky opponents, in the way that it was tricky to go to Gainsborough last week. We got out of that with an emphatic win and I would love something similar in front of our fans tomorrow.

"Fleetwood come to us with a lot of experience and are a big, strong side, so we will have to be at the top of our game. If we set our stall out right, we will be fine.

"We have looked sharp in training this week and hopefully we can carry that into the game."
