The home side were quicker to adapt to the muddy conditions with Jason Ramsey shooting just wide on six minutes.

Chasetown produced some fine defending to keep out the home side. After the break it was a different story and the Scholars took the lead after seven minutes.

Richard Teesdale headed Mark Branch's corner wide of the keeper and the defence cleared but the linesman signalled that the ball had crossed the line.

William Ricketts made his Chasetown debut when he came on for Harry Harris after 60 minutes, while Tony Onokah replaced Birch and was booked within a minute of coming on for a foul.

The visitors made it safe with three minutes to go when Parsons played through to Smith who beat Ellis Alleyne to cut in for a right-footed shot which left Finlay with no chance.

Chasetown: Price, J Branch (C), M Branch, Slater, Thomas, Teesdale, Holland, Parsons, Birch, Smith, Harris. Subs: Miller, Onokah (Birch 66), Clancey (Smith 92), Ricketts (Harris 60), Whitcombe.
