The Scholars have captured their former charge on a one-month loan in time for their FA Trophy First Round Qualifying clash at Colwyn Bay.

Blakemore said: "When someone like Chris comes along, you can't turn him down. But he might have to wait a game or two to get in, the way the lads have been playing!

"Seriously though, he's a great signing and you don't get quality like Chris coming along often. We've worked well in the past and I know I can get the best out of him."

Slater should go straight into the squad for the trip to Colwyn and Blakemore knows the Seagulls have improved since the appointment of manager Neil Young last month.

He said: "It's an important competition for us and there's prize money at stake, and it's a difficult game, I must emphasise that. They haven't lost since the new manager came in.

"We haven't done much homework on them but if we keep playing the way we have been, we'll give them a good game."

Victory at home to Salford at the same stage tomorrow will net Stourbridge £2,000, but boss Gary Hackett is looking at the bigger picture.

He knows the Glassboys are huge outsiders to win the Trophy but says they need to look at progress, because they don't know who they could get.

He said: "We played Cradley in the Birmingham Senior Cup recently and it didn't seem big but then we found out the winner would be playing Wolves.

"Suddenly beating them became important and it's the same in the Trophy. Our aim is to go as far as we can, so we need to get through Saturday and then look at the next game."
