Monmore duo set to double up

Wolves are set to face Peterborough in the Elite League's first ever relegation play-off, but two of their riders will go for individual glory at the Elite League Riders' Championship at Birmingham tonight.
The Panthers were confirmed as Wolves' opponents without either side turning a wheel when Belle Vue defeated Coventry 50-40, thus ensuring their escape from the dreaded play-off and condemning Peterborough to the bottom two in the table.
Young Wolves asset Joe Haines impressed by scoring 14 points on a guest appearance at reserve for the Bees at Kirkmanshulme Lane.
The first leg will take place at Monmore Green next Tuesday, October 14th, with the second leg at the East of England Showground two days later.
The losing side will face the winners of the Premier League play-offs in a final attempt to avoid the drop.
Heat leaders Fredrik Lindgren and Niels Kristian Iversen, however, will first be focusing on tonight's meeting at Perry Barr, when 16 of the Elite League's finest compete for the Riders' Championship.
The meeting was rained off in August and several changes have occurred to the line-up for tonight's restaging.
Notable absentees are Eastbourne's Scott Nicholls and Lakeside number one Andreas Jonsson, but the event still has a quality line-up, including double World Champion Jason Crump of Belle Vue, fellow Grand Prix stars Hans Andersen (Coventry) and Leigh Adams (Swindon) and Croatian sensation Jurica Pavlic who has made a huge impact since joining Swindon.
The championship's destination is made more uncertain as it is staged on a Premier League track, and many of the field will be making their debuts at the home of the Brummies. This could give Lindgren an advantage as he is one of the few riders with experience of the Perry Barr track following his good performance in the Midland Shield inter-league challenge.
The meeting gets under way at 7.30pm. Re-admission tickets from the August rain-offs are valid, and a free racecard will be issued on production of a programme from that night.
Line-up: Chris Holder (Poole), Jason Crump (Belle Vue), Freddie Lindgren (Wolverhampton), Leigh Adams (Swindon), Chris Harris (Coventry), Edward Kennett (Eastbourne), Piotr Swiderski (Ipswich), Kenneth Bjerre (Peterborough), Charlie Gjedde (Belle Vue), Jurica Pavlic (Swindon), Leigh Lanham (Lakeside), Bjarne Pedersen (Poole), Danny King (Peterborough), Rory Schlein (Ipswich), Hans Andersen (Coventry), Niels Kristian Iversen (Wolverhampton).
