Kidderminster boss Mark Yates admits the ball "just didn't fall" as the Harriers were beaten at Cambridge in the first away game of their Blue Square Premier campaign.
A brace from Lee McEvilly handed United their first victory over Kidderminster in 49 years, maintaining their 100 per cent winning start to the league campaign.
There was very little to choose between the two sides but McEvilly's 26th minute opener created a discussion point for Harriers.
Yates said: "I thought we played excellently in the first half - apart from the goal. I told my players not to get exposed and allow Cambridge to open us up.
"A midfield player lost the ball and with one pass we were struggling. We just failed to defend properly and McEvilly was left with a tap in."
"The players responded positively and we had a chance to get level but their keeper made a good save. We played some good football and mixed it up to pose problems but the ball didn't fall for us."
"We didn't play like that in the second half and too often we were caught out underhitting balls to our front men. We couldn't get Hatswell and Bolland turning. The second goal was a poor one to concede but I was pleased for Justin Richards, that he scored for the second game running."
Cambridge opened the scoring when Jon Challinor robbed Knights just outside the Harriers area and played an angled ball for Mark Beesley.
The home striker saw his effort parried away by Adam Bartlett but McEvilly was on hand to sidefoot the rebound in.
They doubled their lead just after the hour through the striker. Harriers grabbed a consolation through Richards in the 90th minute.
