Mutch was manager of the Ellesmere Park outfit until March until he was replaced by current imcumbent Carl MacAuley, after a 6-0 defeat to runaway champions Kettering.

Bully and Mutch know each other well from their time leading the Wolves attack as players, a combined haul of 111 league goals in back to back promotions from the basement of the Football League in seasons 1987/88 and 1988/89 still vivid in the memory of the Molineux faithful.

The Rangers boss admits he knows little about his side's opponents - so is hoping Mutch can fill in the blanks.

He said: "I will be calling Andy before the game to pick his brains, I can assure you. I want my team to play their own game but knowledge is power like everything in football, so it will be a worthwhile chat.

"Andy and me are old friends and obviously know each other well from Wolves, so I am sure he will be happy to help."

Stafford kicked off their Blue Square North campaign with a satisfying 1-0 win over Blue Square Premier opponents from last season, Farsley Celtic, at Marston Road.

Midfielder Tom Thorley, playing in the right wing-back role in place of the injured Andre Francis, got the goal. Bully has been so impressed with the 18-year-old that he has already extended his loan terms from Premier League side Stoke.

Thorley was due to return to the Brittania Stadium later this month but will now stay with Rangers until the end of October.

Bull said: "Tom is young, keen and just wants to play football. He can do that here and it is great experience for him. He played well on Saturday and we are delighted with the progress he is making so far."

The Stafford manager was keen to stress that a team effort was what led to three points on the opening day. He is looking for more of the same against Vauxhall Motors.

He said: "If we can leave there with another three points and another clean sheet, I would be delighted. I said to our three central defenders on Saturday that if we can stay solid, we have a firm base to build on.

"With the firepower we have, we will score goals. So if we can keep clean sheets, we will win games."
