Bothroyd back at Chasetown

Jay Bothroyd returns to the scene of his last public appearance for Wolves tonight – as he makes his debut for Cardiff at Chasetown.

He makes an immediate return to the region, following his move to the Bluebirds for a fee rising to £300,000.

The much-travelled 26-year-old will be seeking to make an immediate impression at the Scholars Ground, where he played but didn't score in a 4-1 Wolves reserves win on July 18.

Chasetown boss Charlie Blakemore is delighted with the challenge of hosting Bothroyd again.

He said: "It will be fantastic to see Jay here again and it will be great if there are two or three first team players as well.

"Jay has played against us once already and our defenders are still chasing him! He's quick and it will be a big test for us.

"He's had a few chances and hopefully Dave Jones will get the best out of him, because he has that much talent, as we saw at Wolves."

The game evokes memories of last season's epic FA Cup run, where Chasetown made history as the lowest-ranked team to reach the third round and took the lead against finalists Cardiff before losing 3-1.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said: "Jay certainly contributed to the team when he was here and scored some important goals.

"He was made available for transfer because he was no longer part of our plans but we wish him well for the future."
