Midlands raider in Potter Memorial win

The Mallard, Horseshoe and Orfe pools were all in use at Springlea for the Trevor Potter Memorial open on Saturday, with two sections on the Mallard and one each on the Horseshoe and Orfe.

Overall top weight went to Richard Lawson (Maver Midlands) who led the way from Mallard peg 34, which was in B section.

Richard fished maggot in the margins to net a succession of carp. Fellow Maver rod Brian Clarke claimed second in B section, with a corn fed catch scaling 67-3-0 at peg 18, and third went to Kev Sudlow (Morgans Angling) on 53-5-0 at peg 23.

A section honours belong to Brian Travis (Sensas Total Angling) who fished maggot at 11 metres at Mallard peg 44 to net 62-10-0. Steve Sherwin (Springlea) fished close in with maggot at peg 41 for 52-6-8 for a section second, and 27-2-8 gave Mark Evans (Morgans) third in the section.

Top man on the Horseshoe was Rino Stanko (Rod & Gun) with 50-5-0, taken on close fished pellet at peg 19. Andy Williams (Vespe) who fished corn at four and a half metres at peg 8 for 37-10-8, and third was Mike Williams (Church Stretton) on 29-2-8 at peg 12.

Bob Hill (Castlefields) finished clear of a close fight for second on the Orfe.

Bob had 42-12-0 on maggot and meat, fished close in at peg 35. Craig Ritchie (Warrington) just beat Mick Keene (Sensas TA) to second when he scaled 25-10-0 at peg 4 and Mick weighed 25-2-8 at peg 29.

The Juniors section on the Orfe was won by L. Robertson (Warrington) with 12-5-8 with S. Golthridge on 4-4-8 taking second.

The Mallard hit good form on Thursday to give Barry Rowlands (Oswestry) a winning net of 89-12-0, with shallow fished paste doing the trick at peg 19.

Following Barry was Brian Travis, warming up for section win on Saturday with a second placed 68-6-8 at peg 46.

Brian caught on pellet at 13 metres, while third placed Mike Williams fished corn and pellet close in at peg 33 for his 57-8-8.

On Sunday the Mallard, Horseshoe and Kingfisher pools were used, with prizes paid to a section on each.

The Kingfisher came up with the top catch of the day, when John Edwards (Morgans) 'pasted' the carp at peg 22 with a paste over pellet, at 12 metres which saw the net slide under 83-7-8. Second in the Kingfisher section went to 46-15-0 from Nathan Spain (STA) at peg 14.

The Horseshoe provided Ken Humphries (Morgans with a 75-8-0 section winner, which fell to corn and pellet, fished at 11 metres at peg 24.

Not far behind Ken was Paul Davies (Springlea) on 69-3-8 at peg 25.

Gareth Hanmer (STA) collected the coin in the Mallard section, offering pellet, up in the water at peg six to net 63-14-0.

Neil Mansfield (Wem) completed the prize-winners with 51-0-0 at peg 19.
