Steve BullStafford manager Steve Bull believes his side are on the right track after what he described as one of the best performances he has seen as boss in a 1-0 win against Kidderminster.

Rangers beat higher league opposition for the first time in pre-season in a 1-0 friendly win at Marston Road, Bobby Wilson celebrating his one-year deal by scoring the only goal of the game.

It was the second clean sheet on the trot, which hugely pleased Bully, after performances riddled with defensive mistakes cost them in their opening four fixtures.

He said: "It was one of the best performances I have seen since I came here. The players did what I asked of them to the letter and more. There was no silly errors and in the second half I feel we just overpowered them.

"I said before the match that Kidderminster were the sort of standard we needed to aspire to. We did that and need to continue doing that. If we can play like we did, we will be a force for anyone in the Blue Square North."

The tests will become sterner for Stafford before their kick off their league campaign against Farsley at Marston Road on Saturday week.

Blue Square Premier new boys Wrexham are in town on Saturday, before the visit of the club where Bull made his name as a player, Wolves, next Tuesday night.

Bull said: "The boys have nothing to fear from our last two games. More of the same and both will be competitive matches. What I am looking or is another couple of good performances, then we can head into the opening game fit and in good form.

"We have two clean sheets under our belt and even before that, had it not been for individual mistakes against Walsall, we would have won that game as well. It goes to show what can be achieved by cutting out silly errors."

The manager also had words of praise for Wilson, who enjoyed probably his best game in what has been an impressive time at Marston Road so far.

He said: "Bobby did well and needs to produce that on a regular basis now. But he showed probably more than I have seen of him so far. Same goes for Nick Amos, who was probably only half-fit."

The win did come at a price for Rangers, with strikers Nick Wellecomme (head gash) and Linden Dovey (jarred back) having to be replaced. Both will miss the Wrexham game.
