Gray inducted into Wall of Fame

Local boxing legend Ron Gray admits it is a "great honour" to be formally inducted into the Black Country Wall of Fame.

His "outstanding contribution to local boxing" was recognised during last night's show at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, with British Boxing Board of Control chairman Charles Giles making the formal introduction.

Gray has been involved in boxing as a heavyweight contender, trainer, manager and a promoter of over 25 years experience of promoting premier boxing shows at the Civic.

He said: "I couldn't believe when I heard I was to be inducted. I can't tell you how proud I am. We have had a vibrant boxing scene in the West Midlands for as long as I have been remember and I have been privileged to be a part of it.

"To be up on the wall represents a great achievement for local boxing. To be listed alongside these great show business stars shows how far we have come. This is an achievement for everybody, not just myself.

Now happy to take a step back and watch the stars of tomorrow, Gray has few regrets. Well, maybe just one.

He said: "My only regret is that I cannot turn the clock back and do it all again. I have a great time over the course of my life and I have a headful of great memories."
