Dean Perrow bagged his first goal of the pre-season, with a 29th minute strike and the Scholars made sure of a second successive win on the road with a 76th minute own goal from Micky Eagles.

After a low key start, with the hosts keeping Chasetown confined to half chances, the visitors finally pierced a solid looking home defence.

Ben Steane got to the bye-line to clip the ball back into the Wednesfield area. Goalkeeper Vaughan got his fist to the effort but John Branch retrieved the ball and pulled it back for Perrow, who drilled in from eight yards out.

That opened up the game and Lee Evans was called upon to block from Anelka, when the big striker threatened in a one on one situation.

After the break Wednesfield looked to have equalised a minute into the second half. Rutter provided a fine finish to plant the ball wide of Evans after being released by a what looked to be a well-timed through ball. However, the assistant's raised flag ruled out the effort.

With the usual substitutions coming thick and fast from both sides, Gary Birch came off the bench along with Morgan Hurley.

It was Birch who found Branch on the edge of the area to try a shot that was blocked for a corner.

From the short flag kick, Craig Holland's cross struck the unfortunate Eagles on the head. The ball looped over the stranded Vaughan for a lucky second goal in the 76th minute.

That gave the Scholars a welcome cushion and they comfortably held on, to record a hard earned win against the West Midland Premier League side.

Chasetown travel to Shifnal Town on Thursday night, before facing the second of their high profile home friendlies this Saturday when Coca Cola League Two side Port Vale come to Church Street.
