Harriers trialists may bear fruit
Kidderminster manager Mark Yates believes he may have found some gems in the trial players at the club trying to earn a contract.
Kidderminster manager Mark Yates believes he may have found some gems in the trial players at the club trying to earn a contract.
The likes of Daryl Taylor, Marco Adaggio, David McDermott, Martin Brittain, Sam Foley, Martin Riley and Keith Lowe were among the players given run outs in last nights pre-season friendly against Hereford at Aggborough.
All have played at least Conference National level, with most garnering experience in the Football League. In Lowe's case, the 22-year-old has never played outside the professional sphere.
Their talent is not in question and with the Harriers currently registering just 12 contracted players on the books, there is a high likelihood that some would make very useful additions to a Blue Square Premier squad.
That sentiment is not lost on Yates, who will run the rule over the trial players in their pre-season friendly against Plymouth on Friday before deciding who he can realistically afford to keep.
He said: "I will be looking to agree terms with some of them. I just need to see them in a bit more of game time before I make my decision.
"We've got a lot of players on trial at the moment and obviously we can't sign them all. We'll speak to them and some may decide its best they look elsewhere.
"One or two might want to stay and try and work something out - the door certainly isn't closed on anyone yet. Some of them have talent without question and could be a real asset to us.
"It is no secret we need to boost the squad before the season starts. This may be the way to do it."
