Springvale bemoan Cannock closure

Springvale captain Tom Chew was left cursing the rain that he insists robbed his side of victory over Cannock and Rugeley.

Chew's side were 42 runs short of their victory target when the heavens opened.

A winning draw was still enough to take them back into a share of second place in the table.

Rizwan Hussain starred with the bat for Cannock and Rugeley, hitting a powerful 67 as his side posted 247.

Young paceman Dave Perry took 4-21 from three late overs. Springvale's opening pair made 91 in the first 12 overs of their reply.

Opener Adnan Haroon was unbeaten on 86 when rain brought a halt to their reply after 37 of the 50 overs.

Chew said: "We knew there would be runs because it was a good pitch and Rizwan played really well for them, hitting it all over the place.

"That was the only time we weren't in control of the game. If it hadn't rained we would have won the game, there is no doubt in my mind."
