The Gorway side return to action at Shifnal tomorrow in fourth position in premier division.

Former captain Dave Middleton believes the dressing room remains just as strong despite their much-changed line-up this season.

Walsall defend their title having lost Gerrie Snyman, Nathan Round, Graeme Archer from last season's title-winning team.

Middleton, who has seen numerous changes in his time at the club, insists replacements Brad Wilson, Mo Sheikh and Chris Tranter have more than made up for the loss – on and off the pitch.

He said: "When you lose players such as Gerrie Snyman, Nathan Round and Graeme Archer, it's bound to affect you.

"Yet I can honestly say we are now in a position where we do not even think about them.

"We always have a game of football before we play and a beer and a sing-song in the dressing room afterwards.

"We have managed to keep that spirit and the new guys have fitted in well."
